Anito is a name for a pre-Hispanic belief system in the Philippines. It was used to refer to spirits, including household deities, deceased loved ones and ancestors, nymphs and diwatas.
Pre-Hispanic Filipinos kept Anito statues to represent the spirits in asking for guidance and protection.
